In a collaboration with Belmont Village Senior Living, these timeless photographs, honoring Veterans both in Chicago and across the country have a great story.

In the first-ever public showing of veteran portrait photography from the book, “American Heroes: Portraits of Service” by Tom Sanders, Belmont Village Senior Living, in partnership with the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA), is proud to announce the permanent exhibition, ‘American Heroes: Portraits of Service’ at Chicago’s Midway Airport. Midway, named after the Battle of Midway, a naval battle that propelled the U.S. to gain a stronghold in the Pacific in 1942.

Open to the public, this moving exhibition features 65 portraits of senior veterans who reside at Belmont Village communities across the country as well as a special display dedicated to Belmont Village Senior Living Chicago-land residents. Viewers can learn about each veteran who served during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War through storyboards and plaques that hang alongside the portraits.

Belmont Village Senior Living first launched the “American Heroes: Portraits of Service” photography project in 2008 commissioning Sanders. He has since taken over 1,000 portraits of Belmont Village senior veterans helping create more than 30 permanent ‘Honor Wall” exhibits in Belmont Village communities across the country to honor and preserve their legacy of courage.
