Step Up Empowers Young Women with Mentorship and Support

By Tom Barnas

Step Up, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals aged 14-29 who identify with girlhood, is making strides in providing structured programs, focused support, and inspiring connections to help young people achieve their personal and professional goals.

Under the leadership of CEO Delores Druilhet Morton, Step Up has reached new heights. Morton, an accomplished nonprofit executive with over 20 years of experience, has guided the organization through challenges, implemented a five-year strategic vision, and expanded its mentorship programs nationwide.

Morton, recognized as a “Champion of Change” by President Barack Obama, is a passionate advocate for addressing the growing issue of “pre-professional pressure.” This term refers to the anxiety young people experience while navigating career uncertainty amidst challenges like student loan debt, housing affordability, and shifting political landscapes.

To further its mission, Step Up recently launched a cutting-edge app designed to connect mentees with mentors. The platform provides guidance on topics such as academic achievement, résumé and cover letter reviews, personal finances, networking, relationship building, and more.
