A Conversation WIth The General Manager Of The Schaumburg Boomers
Since the inaugural game on May 25, 2012, we’ve been dedicated to creating lasting positive experiences for our fans. Our goal has been to offer an enjoyable, affordable, and welcoming environment that entertains everyone who walks through thier gates.
During their first season, the Schaumburg Boomers drew over 125,000 fans, placing the Boomers as the 4th highest in attendance among Frontier League teams. Since then, we’ve been committed to maintaining the unwavering support of our dedicated fanbase who continue to embrace the Boomers experience.
In 2013, a year after our debut, the Boomers achieved a historic milestone by clinching Schaumburg’s inaugural Frontier League Championship. This remarkable feat was accompanied by another significant accomplishment – a 20% surge in attendance from the previous year, propelling us to become the 8th fastest-growing professional baseball franchise nationwide, irrespective of level. This achievement was solely made possible by the incredible devotion of our extraordinary baseball fans.
The following year, in 2014, the Boomers showcased their prowess on the field, breaking a league record for home victories and securing the top spot for attendance. To cap off an exceptional year, the team achieved back-to-back Frontier League Championships.
Continuing the journey, 2017 witnessed the Boomers clinch their third Frontier League Championship, returning the coveted trophy to its rightful place in Schaumburg. In Frontier League history, the Boomers stand alone as the first team to clinch the league Championship more than twice. Adding to the glory, the team earned the 2017 Organization of the Year award, a recognition bestowed upon them for the third time.
The dawn of the 2018 season marked a new era with the addition of General Manager Michael Larson, previously associated with the Idaho Falls Chukars and Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks organizations. Larson’s arrival brought a fresh wave of engagement across the organization. This year brought further honors, including the Frontier League’s Clint Brown Excellence in Marketing Award, a nomination as a Schaumburg Business Association (SBA) Business of the Year, and Larson’s recognition as the SBA’s Rookie of the Year.
The global pandemic disrupted the 2020 season, but the Boomers embraced the challenge. Adapting to the “new normal,” the stadium transformed into an outdoor dining option, hosting a socially distanced 4th of July fireworks show in the West Parking Lot. Selected as the Training Site for the Chicago White Sox Taxi Squad, the Boomers also orchestrated a series of Drive-In concerts in the West Lot during the busy summer.
The return of Boomers Baseball to Wintrust Field in May 2021 marked a resurgence of the familiar sense of normalcy missed during the previous year. The team’s strong performance throughout the summer culminated in a 51-45 record and the Central Division Championship. Staying true to tradition, making it to the playoffs resulted in bringing home the trophy. This is exactly what the 2021 Schaumburg Boomers achieved, triumphing over the Florence Y’alls in the Divisional Round and the Washington WildThings in a thrilling 5-game series. Notably, this marked the 4th time the Boomers proudly secured the championship title, setting a league record. Manager Jamie Bennett, guiding the team for over 9 seasons, has been at the helm for all four victories.
As the season draws to a close, bring the family for a fun day at the ballpark.
