Pullman Railroad Days

By
5/20/2023

Have you been to the Pullman neighborhood? Do you, or have you ever worked for a union, been on a train?

Well, Chicago’s Pullman neighborhood had a huge part in both trains and unions, not to mention it was Chicago’s first planned city!

Celebrate this weekend with Pullman National Railroad Days - May 20-21, 2023 - This will be the second year this family-friendly weekend is taking place but this year is the 50th anniversary of the Historic Pullman Foundation which has labored so long and hard to get Pullman recognized as a National Historic Park (it was signed into law by President Biden in December 2022; previously it was designated a National Historic Monument by President Obama in 2015).

The neighborhood itself has a really cool history - it is considered America’s first planned model industrial community and the birthplace of the American Labor Movement.

In partnership with Metra, and the American Association of Private Railroad Car Owners, visitors will be able to explore historic Pullman rail cars from different eras that weekend and can also check out the opening of the Foundation’s new 50th-anniversary exhibit, celebrating their decades of preservation work.
