Omarcitos: Chicago’s Ultimate Latin American Street Food Experience

By Tom Barnas
10/21/2024

Omarcitos is bringing the best of Latin American street food to the heart of Chicago with a vibrant atmosphere and deep-rooted family heritage. Named after its owner, Omar Cadena, Omarcitos is a tribute to both his Cuban and Ecuadorian roots and his grandfather, Omar Jimenez, a successful Logan Square jeweler who opened shop in 1979. Omar Cadena, with over 20 years of experience in Chicago kitchens, has poured his heart into creating this culinary gem, offering an authentic Latin street food experience combined with a welcoming, family vibe.

At Omarcitos, the space is designed to reflect the energy and joy of Latin American streets, with three distinct areas that enhance the experience:

  • The Kitchen Counter: A bright yellow shipping container where all the action happens, giving you that authentic “street food” feeling, just like you’d find in Central or South America.

  • The Patio/Courtyard: This colorful outdoor space seats up to 50 people, perfect for enjoying great food, live music, and refreshing drinks. With a BYOB policy, Omarcitos provides mixers for your favorite cocktails, making it a go-to spot for a lively night out with friends or neighbors.

  • The Marketplace: Surrounding the courtyard, local vendors offer jewelry, clothing, spices, cocktails, and cervezas, adding an extra layer of community spirit to the space.

Omar himself sums it up best: “What I want to provide at Omarcitos is an overall experience. The music is right. The vibe is inviting, warm, and welcoming. From the moment you approach the building, you should automatically feel ‘I’m at the right place.’ Because when you eat here, you’re familia.”

Omarcitos isn’t just about the food—it’s about creating a space where people can come together and enjoy a soulful, delicious experience with the spirit of Latin America pulsing through every bite, note, and laugh.
