After More Than 30 Years of Hot Dog Specials, Mickey's In Palos Hills Is Retiring

By

Seems pretty appropriate for me that my final post of 2022 is from the neighborhood I grew up in.

Palos Hills was my home until I was 22 years old. It shaped me so much at the time I didn’t realize it. From the Friendship Fest, Moraine Valley, Stagg High School, The Valley Inn, Palos Hills Baseball Association and those amazing parades down 103rd at the start of the season, the Park Department is just shy of the big hill and forever in my heart, Mickeys Gyros on 107th and Roberts Road.

My most important years were spent here, developing life-long friendships with Darryl Clayburn, Tim Grant, Erin Handson, and Rachael Gench, as we’d spend hours at Stagg High School in the “rug room” and then head to Mikey’s for a well-deserved shake or hot dog.

For over 30 years, Mickey’s in Palos Hills has been a meeting spot for families, friends, and the whole thing. I grew up in Palos Hills and have been heading to Mickey’s since 1991. After of little league game, a half day at Stagg, or that perfect lunch break while being a camp counselor for the Palos Hills Park Department, John, Benny, and Maria have always been there to lend an ear, gyro, and hot dog…All with a smile.

Several Palos officials along with many residents, fellow business owners, and customers from around the various communities stopped by to wish them well. Maria had tears in her eyes but we knew in the back of our minds she can’t wait to kick back and relax.

You will be missed, but we are all happy for you and wish you all an amazing retirement! Congratulations on over 30 years in business in Palos Hills! Be well, enjoy retirement, and thank you for the hospitality and great conversation.
