MICHAEL CHARLES RIDES THE WINDY CITY BLUES INTO 2026 WITH A LAKE MICHIGAN RESIDENCY
Chicago didn’t just adopt Michael Charles—it amplified him.
Originally from Australia, Charles arrived in the United States in the late ’90s under the guidance of Buddy Guy’s management. What started as a transpacific leap of faith turned into a lifelong commitment to the city that shaped electric blues into something mythic. After years of back-and-forth travel, Charles planted his flag in Chicago, calling it—without hesitation—the greatest city in the world.
That conviction has fueled a career that’s as relentless as a South Side shuffle. Inducted into the Chicago Blues Hall of Fame in 2015, Charles has built a staggering catalog of 43 releases, weaving together contemporary blues, blues-rock, and flashes of country and pop. His sound doesn’t sit still—it moves, evolves, and stretches the boundaries of tradition without losing its roots.
In 2026, Charles continues his global march with the aptly titled “Where to Next?” tour—his 19th consecutive year performing internationally. With roughly 120 tour dates spanning the United States, Canada, and Australia, his schedule reads less like a calendar and more like a roadmap of devotion.
But it’s Chicago where the story hits its most cinematic note.
Now in his fourth year, Michael Charles has claimed a residency unlike any other in the city—aboard the Tall Ship Windy, Chicago’s official flagship. Docked at Navy Pier and sailing into the open expanse of Lake Michigan, the Windy becomes a floating stage every Monday night from mid-June through August 24, 2026, with a special season finale set for September 4.
This isn’t just a concert—it’s a two-hour immersion. As the skyline burns gold in the distance and the lake rolls beneath the hull, Charles and his band deliver a blues experience that feels both intimate and expansive. Guitar lines ripple through the air like wind through rigging, while the rhythm section anchors the night in something deep and undeniable.
It’s Chicago blues—literally set adrift.
For fans, it’s a rare convergence: world-class musicianship, historic waters, and a city that never stops humming. For Michael Charles, it’s another chapter in a career defined by motion, grit, and an unwavering love for the sound that brought him here.
And as the tour name suggests, the question isn’t where he’s been.
It’s always: where to next?
