Matilda Chicago: Where Mexican and Peruvian Flavors Collide for an Unforgettable Brunch Experience

Walk into Matilda, and you can feel it right away — that pulse. The kind of energy that comes from a kitchen that means it. Here, Mexican soul meets Peruvian flair in a menu that doesn’t just feed you, it tells a story — one built on roots, rhythm, and a whole lot of heart.

Weekend brunch (Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m.–3 p.m.) is where the flavors turn up and the city slows down. It’s a lineup that reads like a love letter to Latin America: Tuna Tostada with roasted chile salsa on a purple corn base, Ceviche de Pescado swimming in bright aji amarillo leche de tigre, and Huevos Rancheros stacked with black beans, ranchero salsa, avocado, and queso fresco.

Want heat? Go for the Chilaquiles, your call — rojo or verde. Craving comfort? The Omelette Oaxaqueña and Quesabirria will take care of that. Or go full flavor mode with the Breakfast Tacos, Burrito Cochinita Pibil, and Steak and Eggs kissed with Baja California chimichurri and sweet plantains. Bonus: a whole lot of the menu happens to be gluten-free.

Behind the bar, Beverage Director Gilberto Mendez does something few in the city dare — he curates an entirely Mexican wine list. Think crisp whites and bold reds from Valle de Guadalupe, Valle de San Vicente, San Miguel de Allende, and Coahuila. It’s the kind of list that makes you sit back, sip slow, and realize — this isn’t just brunch. This is culture in a glass.
