Helping Kids and Seniors Heal Through Animals and Nature

Meridian and YouthCare Partner with Main Stay Therapeutic Farm

Looking for a unique and effective way to support mental health and emotional well-being? Meridian and YouthCare have teamed up with Main Stay Therapeutic Farm to offer nature-based therapy programs to eligible members — including children with behavioral health needs and seniors who may be feeling lonely or isolated.

These programs use the power of animal-assisted therapy and time spent in nature to help people feel better, build emotional resilience, and connect with others.

Why Animal-Assisted Therapy Works

There’s real science behind the healing power of animals. Spending time with animals can:

🐴 Increase oxytocin – the “feel good” hormone that helps build trust and connection

🐶 Help children understand emotions – animals reflect feelings, which helps kids learn how to self-regulate

🐐 Support kids with autism and ADHD – studies show improved focus and reduced impulsive behavior

🐇 Reduce stress and anxiety – petting animals or being in nature helps calm the mind and body

Whether it’s petting a bunny, walking a nature trail, or spending time with a horse, animal-assisted education helps people of all ages feel more connected and supported.

Just a short drive from the city, Main Stay Farm is located on 40 beautiful acres — a hidden gem where healing happens naturally. Here, members can interact with:

  • Full-size and miniature horses
  • Donkeys and mules
  • Goats and sheep
  • Barn cats and rabbits
  • An adaptive garden and scenic walking trail

It’s a one-of-a-kind experience that blends mental health support with the calming energy of animals and nature.
