Live 4 Dance Workshop with Mayte Garcia Brings Prince’s Legacy to Life in Minneapolis, June 7–8
Minneapolis is set to host a high-energy, inspiring dance event this June as Live 4 Love Charities presents the Live 4 Dance Workshop, a free two-day experience designed to empower teens through movement, mentorship, and music. Taking place June 7–8, 2025, at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium, this dynamic event invites teens ages 13–18 to learn dance choreography set to the iconic music of Prince—led by none other than Mayte Garcia, Prince’s longtime collaborator and acclaimed choreographer.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced dancer, this inclusive workshop offers a unique opportunity to connect with others, gain confidence, and celebrate one of music’s most influential artists. The event will run daily from 9 AM to 4 PM, and includes free lunch, beverages, gifts, and professional mentorship.
A Tribute to Prince Through Dance
The workshop celebrates the life and legacy of Prince, honoring his vision of community, creativity, and care for one another. Participants will receive hands-on instruction from world-class choreographers @andy.mor5 and @baddient, who bring a passion for youth mentorship and inclusive dance education. At the heart of the event is Mayte Garcia, a professional dancer who rose to fame as the principal choreographer for Prince during his legendary New Power Generation era.
Garcia, who began dancing at age three, trained as a classical ballerina and later joined the U.S. Army’s dance troupe before being discovered by Prince. Their creative partnership defined a generation of innovative live performances and music videos. In addition to her work with Prince, Garcia has choreographed for top-tier artists including Britney Spears, and has worked in film, TV, and global stage productions.
Free Teen Dance Workshop in Minneapolis
The Live 4 Dance Workshop is completely free and open to teens ages 13–18 (with flexibility on age). The goal is to create a safe, welcoming space for self-expression through dance, regardless of skill level. Teens and parents interested in participating can text 612-440-9563 to register.
This event is part of a broader mission from Live 4 Love Charities, a nonprofit organization committed to uplifting youth and strengthening communities through the arts, education, and service. Originally founded by Prince and Mayte Garcia in 1996 as Love 4 One Another Charities, the foundation was renamed after the passing of their son, Amiir, and remains deeply rooted in love and compassion.
Continuing the Mission of Live 4 Love Charities
Live 4 Love Charities continues to support underserved communities and youth through initiatives that align with Prince’s core values—offering mentorship, education, and emotional support through the arts. The organization believes that “we’re supposed to take care of each other,” as Prince once said, and this workshop is a living example of that belief in action.
