NEIGHBORHOOD 6, LAKEVIEW

Lakeview, alternatively spelled Lake View, stands as one of Chicago’s vibrant and diverse 77 community areas, situated on the North Side. Its boundaries encompass West Diversey Parkway to the south, West Irving Park Road to the north, North Ravenswood Avenue to the west, and the picturesque shores of Lake Michigan to the east. This lively neighborhood is surrounded by the Uptown community area to the north, Lincoln Square to the northwest, North Center to the west, and Lincoln Park to the south. In 2020, Lakeview proudly housed a population of 103,050 residents, making it the second-largest community area in Chicago in terms of population.

Within the larger framework of Lakeview, you’ll discover several smaller, distinct neighborhood enclaves that contribute to its rich character. Among them are Sheridan Station Corridor, Northhalsted, Southport Corridor, Wrigleyville, and Wrigley Plaza. Notably, Boystown, celebrated for its prominent LGBT community, hosts an annual pride parade each June, adding to the area’s inclusivity and vibrant atmosphere. Meanwhile, Wrigleyville, a renowned district, revolves around the iconic Wrigley Field, the beloved home of the Chicago Cubs, making it a hub for sports enthusiasts and entertainment seekers alike.

Cultural experiences and artistic expressions also flourish in Lakeview. The Belmont Theater District, situated near the Belmont ‘L’ station, proudly boasts over 30 theaters and live performance venues, captivating audiences with its diverse array of shows and events.

Lakeview’s charm doesn’t go unnoticed. In 2013, Money Magazine acknowledged its allure, ranking Lakeview number three on its list of top ten big-city neighborhoods in the Best Places to Live rankings.

Overall, Lakeview embodies the heart and soul of Chicago’s North Side, offering a plethora of activities, cultural delights, and a vibrant community that continues to attract residents and visitors alike.
