With February in full swing, get out and enjoy our city with a first-of-its-kind anthology, Latinx Poetics: Essays on the Art of Poetry, which presents both personal and academic pieces from such Latinx poets and scholars as Brenda Cárdenas, Daniel Borzutzky, Orlando Menes, and many others.

The event will be exploring the many different ways in which a people’s history and language are vital to the development of imagination and how the meaning and value of poetry are necessary to understand the history and future of a people.

Editor Ruben Quesada, a Chicagoan who serves on the board of the National Book Critics Circle and whose writing appears in The New York Times, Best American Poetry, Ploughshares, Guernica, and Harvard Review, has created an exciting and necessary collection of pieces that offers humorous and poignant insights into the minds of Latinx poets and the perceptions of identity that inspire them.

Quesada and the contributors are celebrating the launch with an in-person event (also featuring a virtual streaming component) at 7:00pm on Thursday, February 2 at the Poetry Foundation (61 W. Superior St.). It is the kickoff event for the Poetry Center’s Spring Season and it features readings by 11 contributors and conversation about the book. The event is free and open to the public.
