Edison Park (formerly known as Canfield) is a vibrant community area situated on the North Side of Chicago, Illinois. Named in honor of the renowned inventor Thomas Alva Edison, who graciously accepted this community namesake back in 1890, it exclusively comprises the Edison Park neighborhood.

According to the 2000 Census, Edison Park boasts a population of 11,259 residents. One of its distinctive characteristics is the notably high concentration of individuals with Irish ancestry, comprising over three-fourths of the neighborhood’s population.

Nestled between the Des Plaines River and the Chicago River, this locality historically served as a local watershed divide. The Des Plaines River flows into the Illinois River and eventually meets the Mississippi River, leading to the Gulf of Mexico. Similar to the nearby Portage Park, Edison Park was a common portage utilized by early travelers who carried their canoes across this area.

By highlighting the neighborhood’s historical significance and cultural diversity, Edison Park stands out as a cherished and lively community in the tapestry of Chicago.
