Ninety Days In The 90s With Andy Frye

The 90s exploded with new music from all parts of the country. We all know the Seattle music scene and what that did to the landscape of music, but Chicago had its own revolution that stands on its own.

It begs the question, where would you time travel if you could go back to the 90s? Who would you see? What band and what city meant the most to you during that time?

Would you fix anything?

Wicker Park and Bucktown was the scene of Chicago’s musical engine of the 1990s. Anchored by the intersection of Milwaukee Ave and North Ave, you could hear the sounds of Liz Phair, The Smashing Pumpkins, Naked Raygun, Urge Overkill, Ministry, and others bleeding from the walls of the buildings that have long since gentrified.

We talked to Chicago author and sports writer Andy Frye about the canvas that was the Chicago music scene in the 1990s that inspired his time-traveling odyssey, ”Ninety Days In The 90s”, told through the experiences of Darby Derrex.
