In a bold move at the close of 2023, Goose Island took a momentary pause, shutting down operations to embark on an ambitious mission: to elevate the very foundation of the brewery to unparalleled excellence. We had the exclusive opportunity to tour the revamped facilities with none other than Goose Island’s visionary, Mike Siegel.
Goose Island Beer Company was founded by John Hall in Chicago, Illinois. John Hall had a vision of creating high-quality craft beers that could compete with the best European beers. He named the brewery after the nearby Goose Island, located on the North Branch of the Chicago River.
In its early years, Goose Island gained popularity for its innovative and diverse beer styles. One of its flagship beers, Goose Island Honker’s Ale, became well-received and helped establish the brewery as a prominent player in the craft beer scene.
In addition to its production facilities, Goose Island operates several brewpubs in Chicago, providing a space for locals and visitors to enjoy a variety of its beers along with food offerings.
While the sale to Anheuser-Busch InBev sparked debates about the definition of craft beer and corporate influence in the industry, Goose Island remains an influential and respected name in the craft beer world. The brewery has played a role in popularizing craft beer and contributing to the diversity of beer styles available to consumers.
