On A Mission To End Hunger And Stop Food Waste

5/23/2023

CHICAGO:

Fight2Feed, founded by Jiwon McCartney, who also founded Culinary Fight Club and owner of Burger Alley Chicago, began its journey on March 20, 2014 in Chicago to combat some staggering statistics. 86 billion pounds of food is wasted by households and the food service industry every year while 48.1 million Americans live in food-insecure households, including 32.8 million adults and 15.3 million children.

“I’ve always been passionate about the food industry and to have events like In Culinary Conversations choose Fight2Feed points to positive changes in our industry and it shows there is a community behind the cause,” says Jiwon McCartney, Founder of Fight2Feed. “It’s time for a great change and we could not be more excited to be a part of it all right now.”

To date, the organization has served over 1 million meals, rescued over 4 million pounds in the Chicago area and has since expanded its operation to Atlanta, Georgia, Kansas City, Missouri and Pensacola, FL. Its mission serves a dual purpose of reducing food waste while sharing food with people who need food. That includes rescuing food from restaurants, chefs, and food distributors, and then having volunteers recreate healthy and distribute hot meals to the community.
